A year at our school
Swimming Carnival
Our whole school came together for the Swimming Carnival, organised by Mrs Maddern and Miss McAlister. It was a fantastic day of friendly competition and school spirit, with students cheering each other on and showing true sportsmanship. A big thank you to all the parent helpers whose support made the carnival possible—events like this simply wouldn’t happen without you.
Stage 3 Camp
Stage 3 students spent 3 days at the Great Aussie Bush Camp in Kincumber. The students mixed beautifully, forming new friendships and creating a supportive community. It was wonderful to see how quickly our teachers connected with the kids, enjoying the opportunity to get to know them in such a fun and relaxed environment.
Throughout the camp, the children were challenged with a variety of exciting activities that pushed their limits and encouraged teamwork and self-belief. Some highlights included jumping off high platforms, tackling the giant swing, navigating high ropes courses, canoeing, and building rafts. These experiences not only brought out courage but also taught valuable collaboration skills. Students loved their independence and down time too.
Evenings were filled with games and campfires. Back in the cabins, students showed kindness and support to their roommates, especially for those missing home. The teachers were incredibly impressed by the students’ willingness to step out of their comfort zones and by their remarkable responsibility—our cabins were by far the cleanest in camp history! Well done Stage 3!
Easter Celebrations
The Easter Celebrations were eggsellent. It was a huge celebration that combined the Easter Hat Parade and diorama with Grandparents Day, a P&C Morning Tea, the Easter Raffle and the Book Fair!
Cross Country
The Cross-Country carnival was a success by every measure, including the sunshine! Over the past two days our teachers have heard lots of comments from students who revealed how they demonstrated positivity and perseverance, even when their bodies ached! Well done to all the students who participated. Students who placed in the top three will receive a ribbon during the assembly, Friday of Week 4. They will also progress through to Zone, which is due to take place in the coming weeks. Thank you again to the parent helper volunteers who helped to keep our students safe.
National Reconciliation Week
Aboriginal education is embedded throughout the NSW curriculum from Kindergarten to Year 10 as a learning across the curriculum priority. Students learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, including archaeological evidence, oral traditions, and the impacts of colonisation. During National Reconciliation Week, age appropriate classroom activities focus on learning about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements and the concept of reconciliation. Inside the hall we have a display of decorated footprints with words, symbols or messages that reflect their commitment to reconciliation, respect, and unity.
The Student Leadership Team, along with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, will be working with Aunty Calita from our local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group to create a contextualised Acknowledgement of Country for our school.
NAIDOC Celebrations
Our school community came together in a vibrant celebration of NAIDOC Week on Monday, immersing ourselves in the rich cultures and traditions of Australia's First Nations peoples.
Students enthusiastically participated in a variety of hands-on activities, including weaving bracelets, collaboratively drawing a magnificent rainbow serpent mural, crafting intricate waratah scratch artworks and engaging in traditional Indigenous games. These experiences not only fostered creativity and teamwork but also deepened our understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures. The week was a testament to the strength, vision and legacy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, leaving a lasting impact on all who took part.
Book Week
Students dress up as their favourite book characters, sparking excitement and a love for literature across all year levels. This fun and colourful event encourages imagination, storytelling, and a lifelong passion for books, making reading an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone.
Students also enjoyed an author visit from Carla Fitzgerald who donated her time.
Year 6 Tonne of Fun
Our fantastic Year 6 students took charge and organised our annual Tonne of Fun mini fete!
The event was filled with exciting activities, including sock wrestling, a basketball shootout, kick off, face painting, and a duck derby. We also had mini bikes, water balloons, sponge throwing, hairspray and nails, temporary tattoos, and fun guessing competitions. And of course, we can't forget the delicious food stalls featuring cookie decorating, spider drinks, ice cream, and pancakes! It was a wonderful day of fun and community spirit!
Thank you to all our Year 6 students and their parents for supporting today’s event and for everyone who bought a token card and took part in helping to raise money for the Year 6 farewell.
Athletics Carnival
The CWPS Athletics Carnival was a fantastic day filled with outstanding sportsmanship, enthusiasm and vibrant house spirit. Well done to all students who participated and gave their best on the track and field!
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing parent volunteers for your time, support and energy on the day.
Our carnival simply wouldn’t be possible without your ongoing dedication each year.

Our class news
3/4MA
Inclusive Education Support Unit
This term on Wednesday afternoons, students in Classes K6H, K6T and K6V have embarked on a journey through space as part of our “Spark Curiosity: Sun, Moon and Stars” science unit. Here’s how we have engaged with astronomy in playful, imaginative—and hands‑on—ways:
We used a torch and a globe to model how Australia moved in and out of sunlight as Earth spun on its axis.
We created models of our spinning world.
With those models, we re‑enacted Earth’s movement around the Sun. This role‑play clarified the difference between rotation (Earth spinning) and revolution (Earth travelling around the Sun).
We imagined ourselves in spaceships flying toward the Sun. As we drew nearer, we looked through our imaginary window and observed images of the Sun from increasingly close range. The closer we got, the hotter the Sun felt.
We watched sunlight melt coloured ice cubes— demonstrating the Sun’s role as both a source of light and heat.
With each activity we try to connect abstract astronomical concepts—such as Earth’s spin and the cycle of day and night—to tangible, visible experiences.
Next, we plan to explore the Moon and the stars, including the Dark Emu constellation, as we continue on our journey to spark curiosity.
